História, literatura e cinema: os contos de Tevie, o leiteiro e suas representações

Resumo

Procura-se contextualizar a obra de Scholem Aleichem do ponto de vista histórico, em particular seu texto mais famoso, Tevie, o leiteiro, constituído de dez contos, dentre os quais se destacam os relativos às filhas do leiteiro. Por meio de seus olhos, o autor narra as transformações dramáticas que ocorrem na Rússia entre o fim do século XIX e início do XX. Desde a morte do autor, sua obra foi encenada inúmeras vezes nos palcos dos mais diversos países e inspirou produções cinematográficas. As mais conhecidas são: Tevie, o leiteiro, dirigido e estrelado por Morris Schwartz, em 1939, e O violinista no telhado, dirigido por Norman Jewison e estrelado por Chaim Topol, em 1971. Esses filmes são comparados no contexto proposto.

 

History, literature and cinema: the stories of Tevye, the dairyman and their representations - Abstract: This article aims at contextualizing the work of Scholem Aleichem in a historical point of view, particularly his most famous text, Tevye, the dairyman, with ten short stories, with special attention to the stories about the dairyman’s daughters. Through their eyes, the author narrates the dramatic transformations occurred in Russia in the late XIXth and beginnings of the XXth centuries. Since the author’s death, his work was staged numerous times in various countries and inspired film productions. The most notorious ones are Tevye, the Dairyman, directed and starred by Morris Schwartz, in 1939, and Fiddler on the roof, directed by Norman Jewison and starred by Chaim Topol, in 1971. These two films are compared in the proposed context.
