Abstract

This paper presents the TeleMídia Laboratory, its History, Objectives, Research Lines, and current research and innovations focuses. Among these focuses the Telemídia Lab are currently working in Hypermedia and Multimedia 3D systems, with support to augmented reality.

Author Biographies

Luiz Fernando Gomes Soares, TeleMídia Lab Department of Informatics Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio)

Dr. Luiz Fernando Gomes Soares is a full professor in the Informatics Department at the Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio), where since 1990 he heads the TeleMidia Lab. He is a Board Member of the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee, Chair of the Middleware Working Group for the Brazilian Digital TV System and Editor of the ITU-T H.761 Recommendation on NCL and Ginga-NCL for IPTV Services. Prior to joining PUC-Rio he was a researcher at the Brazilian Computer Company. Other academic appointments include visiting professorships at École Nationale Superieure de Télécomunications (France), Université Blaise Pascal (France), and Universidad Federico Santa Maria (Chile). He also spent two years in the IBM Scientific Center in Rio. Dr. Soares received a D. Sc. in computer science from PUC-Rio (Brazil) in 1983.

Roberto Gerson de Albuquerque Azevedo, TeleMídia Lab Department of Informatics Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio)

Roberto Gerson de Albuquerque Azevedo is a PhD. candidate at PUC-Rio and associate researcher at Telemidia Lab. He received his B.Sc. degree in Computer Science from Federal University of Maranhão in Maranhão, Brazil. He received his M.Sc. degree in Informatics in 2010 from the Department of Informatics at Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio) in Rio de Janeiro. Roberto’s research interests are in the areas of hypermedia and multimedia authoring, three-dimensional hypermedia systems and its applications, digital television, and 3D digital television.

Márcio Ferreira Moreno, TeleMídia Lab Department of Informatics Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio)

Dr. Marcio Ferreira Moreno is adjunct coordinator of the TeleMidia Lab. He received his Ph.D. from PUC-Rio in 2010, focusing his research on middlewares for Digital TV systems. He was granted the best Ph.D. award by EuroITV committee in 2009 in Leuveun, Belgium. Since 2004 he integrates the group of researchers of the TeleMidia Lab, where he participated on many projects in the areas of computer networks and distributed multimedia applications. Currently he contributes on the specifications for the Brazilian Digital TV System and ITU-T Recommendations for IPTV, and is responsible for the reference implementation of Ginga-NCL.
