The role of antioxidants in the oral and dental tissues is becoming an item of growing interest. In this way the objective of this work was to analyze the effect of the different presentations of resveratrol on the oral mucosa of wistar rats.

Methods: Fifty male rats were randomly divided into 5 groups: water (group A), red wine (Group B), grape juice (group C), 12% alcoholic solution (Group D) and solution Aqueous solution of resveratrol (group E). Samples of palatal mucosa and tongue were collected for histomorphometric analysis in HE staining and performed histochemical technique with AgNOR for quantification of cell proliferation.

Results: As to the thickness of the epithelium, both the tongue and the palate in the oropharynx region showed a statistically significant difference between the control group in relation to the other groups with decrease in thickness and with greater decrease in the resveratrol and wine groups. Thus, the effect of the variables is detected in the suprabasal where the wine reduced the speed with significant difference while the ethanol increased. In the epithelium of the tongue, there was a statistically significant difference between control, grape juice and resveratrol in relation to ethanol, with a reduction in the ethanol group.

Conclusions: It was observed that the wine does not interfere in the physiological renewal of the buccal epithelium occurring in the basal layer and exerts a protective action of the same by the reduction in the proliferation velocity of the supra basal layer.

Keywords: Resveratrol; grape juice; wine; cell proliferation; epithelial thickness
}, number={3}, journal={Clinical and Biomedical Research}, author={Jesus, Luciano Henrique and Cavagni, Juliano and Carrard, Vinícius Coelho and Rösing, Cassiano Kuchenbecker and Sant’Ana Filho, Manoel}, year={2017}, month={set.} }
