XIX. As Danças da Morte não foram só uma publicação rentável e popular entre ricos e pobres desde seu surgimento no séc. XV, eram acima de tudo, objetos de reflexão filosófica sobre a efemeridade da existência, alcançando lugar privilegiado na produção própria de alguns artistas, que tinham nesta obra gráfica uma oportunidade comercial e uma base de reflexão qualificada sobre os dilemas da vida, do poder e da beleza.</p><p> </p><p><strong><em>Abstract</em></strong></p><p><em>The main objective of this essay is to establish how the Engraving tecninique, through its historical processes, specially Woodcut and Etching, potentiated the construction and diffusion of the image macabre up until 19th century. The Dances of Death have not only was a profitable and popular publication among rich and poor since its emergence in the 15th century and for the following centuries, but they were also the subject of philosophical reflection on the ephemerality of the existence, reaching a privileged place in some artists’ production, who had in this graphic work not only a commercial opportunity, was above all, a base of qualified reflection on the dilemmas of life, power and beauty.</em></p> ER -
