Resumo

Há um sentimento de promessa não realizada quando se analisa o progresso do projeto crítico da Educação Física desde a virada da segunda década do século XXI.  Estudos de qualidade continuam a emergir em torno da pedagogia crítica da Educação Física, evidenciando o prolongado comprometimento com sua promessa de fornecer aos aprendizes recursos pessoais e intelectuais que são necessários na orientação de produtivos futuros sadios num mundo cada mais complexo. Ademais, igualmente importante é a crítica a falta de tradução em qualquer meio que impacte na Educação Física escolar convencional. Neste artigo nós discutimos destacados exemplos de investigações contemporâneas que demonstram as contínuas lutas em contextos práticos e revisita barreiras que continuam a restringir as aspirações dos estudos críticos. Focando na Educação Física como uma prática cultural e curricular nas escolas australianas, nós damos primazia aos modos pelos quais políticas diretivas podem ser melhor mobilizadas para capacitar a agenda crítica.

Chris Hickey, Faculty of Arts and Education SoE Arts & Ed Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus Deakin University

Chris Hickey is a Professor in Health and Physical Education at Deakin University, where his research focuses on the interacting themes of education, identity and equity. This work has a particular focus on the changing nature of youth experiences at the beginning of the 21st century, and the ways in which these experiences are both governed by others and regulated by the ‘self’. Conceptually this work draws on sociological and educational theory and is rooted in the application of qualitative methodologies. Across this work Chris has produced over 80 publications including books, book chapters, journal articles, research reports and conference papers. This track record comprises a mix of high quality, sole authored, joint and multi-authored papers published in highly regarded international and national journals.

Amanda Mooney, Faculty of Arts and Education SoE Arts & Ed Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus Deakin University

Following nearly ten years teaching Health and Physical Education in schools,  Amanda has been a teacher educator and researcher since 2007.  Amanda is involved in initial teacher education and learning and teaching in Higher Education with an interest in pedagogy, curriculum and assessment.  During her time in the tertiary sector, Amanda has held various positions, including Course Director for the Bachelor of Health and Physical Education degree and is currently the Higher Degrees by Research Coordinator for the School of Education.

Laura Afrey, Monash university

Laura is a Courses Leader (Health and Physical Education) and Senior Lecturer within the Faculty of Education at Monash University, Australia. Her research focuses on teacher professional learning, curriculum development, and inclusion as it's central threads. Recent publications have explored phenomena such as fitness testing as a context for learning, and stereotypes in Physical Education.
