Amos Oz: perplexity in face of an inversion of roles - Abstract: The work of Amos Oz has as themethe difficulty of being “at the other side”, for a people who used to be minority and that now finds itself as hegemonic and has to learn how to deal with minorities. In The black box, for example, Oz purposely uses a polyphonic structure, contrasting with the sole voice of the hegemonicpeople among whom jews lived in the diaspora, societies where the jews’ voice wasn’t heard at all. In this work and in others, the author insists in discussing the relations between the Jewish State and their minorities, specially the arabs, but also between the Ashkenazi elite and the Sephardic and Mizrachi “minorities”. In My Michael and in the short story “The nomad and the viper”, the focus falls upon the entire acceptance of the non-Jewish minorities: can they have personal relations with the Jewish population?
